An opportunity has arisen for a full or part time veterinary surgeon with potential for a residency
position in a busy referral veterinary practice in small animal behavioural medicine, working under the
direction of the Clinical Director and as part of a clinical team of vets, rehabilitation trainers and a
veterinary physiotherapist. Candidates must have a special interest in behavioural medicine and
preferably a postgraduate qualification in the field. RCVS Advanced Practitioner status in Companion
Animal Behaviour is an advantage and an interest in chronic pain management is also beneficial.
Responsibilities include:
• Conducting online and face to face diagnostic behavioural medicine consultations and formulating
bespoke treatment programmes for patients and their caregivers
• Prescribing medication as appropriate in relation to emotional disorders and chronic pain management
• Advising clients on use of pheromones, nutraceuticals and other adjunctive therapies as appropriate
• Working closely with the rehabilitation trainers and veterinary physiotherapist to ensure comprehensive
care for patients
• Providing support for clients via telephone and email following consultations
• Conducting review consultations for the purposes of reviewing progress of the case and monitoring
medication
• Taking the out of hours phone on a rota basis
• Providing email advice and support for local veterinary practices via our Behavioural Advice
Subscription Service
• Performing necessary clinical related administration duties
Behavioural Referrals Veterinary Practice offers a referral service in small animal behaviour medicine.
Practice Principal Sarah Heath BVSc PgCertVE DipECAWBM(BM) CCAB FHEA FRCVS is both an
RCVS and an EBVS ® European Veterinary Specialist in Behavioural Medicine as well as a Certified
Clinical Animal Behaviourist. She was made a Fellow of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons in
recognition of her work in establishing behavioural medicine as a veterinary discipline. The vet team
offers a comprehensive service in the diagnosis, treatment and management of behavioural disorders
and related chronic pain where appropriate. The tailor-made behavioural modification programmes are
complemented by a follow up service provided by the team of rehabilitation trainers and a veterinary
physiotherapist.
