RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery
EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in Equine Surgery
Director Cotts Equine Hospital
After graduating as a vet from Cambridge University in 2001 I have spent my whole working career in equine veterinary practice, initially in Morocco and Yorkshire before completing an internship at Dierenliniek de Bosdreef, a referral equine practice in Belgium. Subsequently after a period working in ambulatory equine practice in Kent, I completed a 3-year surgical residency at the University of Liverpool in 2006. I became a European-recognised Specialist in Large Animal Surgery (Equine) after passing board examinations in 2008. I have worked as a referral equine surgeon in York, Shrewsbury and in Giessen (Germany) before moving to West Wales to help found Cotts Equine Hospital in early 2008, currently the only RCVS-accredited equine hospital in Wales. I carry out the majority of both soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery at Cotts, more recently with the help of a surgical resident and internal medicine Specialist colleague. I developed a particular interest and expertise in the management of back and performance lameness problems and have travelled extensively within the UK and Internationally to lecture on, and treat horses for, these problems. Although a true general surgeon, I spend much of my non-emergency working time managing complex orthopaedic cases.
