RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery
EBVS European Veterinary Specialist in Equine Surgery
Senior Orthopaedic Clinican and Surgeon
I qualified from Cambridge University in 2001 and then undertook a year of further clinical training at the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket. This was primarily in equine orthopaedics but also involved training in equine respiratory medicine and cardiology. Following this, I spent three years in a surgical training programme at the University of Liverpool in equine orthopaedics and surgery (orthopaedics and soft tissue). I gained the RCVS Certificate in Equine Surgery (Orthopaedics) in 2005, the ECVS Diploma in Large Animal Surgery in 2006 and became an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery in 2008. I held a brief academic post at the University of Liverpool following my residency before joining Rossdales Equine Hospital and Diagnostic Centre in Newmarket in 2006. At Rossdales, I am one of the senior orthopaedic clinicians dealing with secondary and tertiary referral cases, principally concentrating on the lame, poorly performing and sports horse. I see a wide range of cases, from the child's pony to the high level competition horse. I am also one of five Specialist surgeons at the practice. I am actively involved in the Specialist community, being invited to speak at national and international meetings. I lecture regularly to practitioners and am readily available to give advise to practitioners about their clinical cases. I am currently (2012-2017) an examiner at the post-graduate Specialist level (ECVS Diploma).
I have contributed to book chapters in reference texts for general practitioners and veterinary nurses and have also contributed to educational articles for veterinary practitioners in my field of expertise.
