Clinical Profile

I am employed by the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland and work in the conservation charity sector focusing on endangered species and their welfare both in captivity and the wild. I am involved in a number of native British species reintroduction projects and have worked extensively with species translocation projects and their risk assessments. I hold a Visiting Professorship with the University of the Highlands and Islands, and an Honorary Clinical Professorship with the University of Glasgow. I also sit on DEFRA's Animal Welfare Committee, Chair their Zoos Expert Committee and am a member of the Scottish Animal Welfare Committee advising Scottish Government on domestic and wild animal welfare.

Research

The focus of my research has been focused on diseases and other threats encountered by endangered wild and captive non-domestic animals. I have published on a wide variety of species including exotic felids, Eurasian beavers, birds, reptiles and exotic hoofstock.
